Insertive Acupuncture
When people think of acupuncture, this is typically the image that comes to mind. The treatment uses hair-thin, flexible needles, which are inserted at key points on the body to unlock and restore the flow of qi.
There are as many as 2,000 acupuncture points on the human body, which are connected by 20 pathways (called meridians). Each point is intended for a different purpose, which is why every patient has a thorough discussion with the doctor before any work is done. This allows our expert staff to identify which points will help you most, and determine a path of action.

What Does it Feel Like?
It is common for people to be nervous or anxious before having acupuncture for the first time – especially if you have an aversion to needles. Our doctors understand this, and can address any questions or concerns you have with you before your treatment begins. Unlike the needles you are used to at the doctor, acupuncture needles are incredibly thin – the size of 2 or 3 strands of hair – and very flexible. The sterile, single-use needles are placed quickly at specific points and most people (even those with fear of needles) say it doesn’t hurt and that the treatment is actually quite relaxing. It is not uncommon for patients to doze off or take a nap during acupuncture treatments, which we completely support!
Treatment Plan
Acupuncture is not a one-and-done treatment, but a series. Expect to have a higher frequency to begin (weekly or every other week) which will taper off over time. Many people continue to have monthly or quarterly “maintenance” appointments because they love the treatment and its effects so much. Your plan will be unique to you, and worked out between you and your doctor.
