Microcurrent is an electromagnetic therapy dating back to the late 1800’s. It is delivered to the skin, and electrons move through to the cells of the body where the mitochondria (the power house of the cell) can use the added electrons to increase ATP production. (ATP is the unit of energy in the body that drives almost all the activities of the cell.) This leads to an increased production of protein synthesis and enhanced cell membrane transport. Increased tissue repair has been observed with treatment of microcurrent and it is thought to be due to this enhanced cell activity.
In one study, by Carolyn McMankin, patients with chronic low back pain received 11 treatments over 8 weeks. Their low back pain scale dropped from an average of 6.8/10 to 1-2/10 and the patients finally received relief.

Is Microcurrent Safe?
Microcurrent is an FDA approved medical device. Patients may feel no sensation, or may report warmth in the area being treated. Patients with implanted metal pins, metal plates, artificial joints and stents report no discomfort or other problems. The mild current is physiologic and within the range of the body's own normal current.
